Read moreKINGFISHER WINTER NIGHTS continues to brighten up a city that’s seen other holiday traditions shut down by COVID-19 concerns. Steve Neuman reported that he and the full contingent of other volunteers who are making the magic happen this year hosted more than 300 cars of visitors for its opening night Saturday. Dover Christian Church volunteered to greet guests Saturday night, followed by Dover School personnel on Sunday. Photos above are from Monday night, when the Shepard family of Kingfisher helped cover the park. Center photo at left are Sharon and Jamie Shepard at the front gate and at right is Kari Shepard at the swinging bridge. Noah Shepard also was on hand but not pictured. At bottom left is the park train, which is a beautiful addition to the displays even though not in operation due to social distancing concerns. At bottom right, a couple takes the pedestrian view, another option for a different perspective on the growing collection of displays, which has been expanded this year, thanks to local businesses. “The ice storm set us back two weeks on setup but the community volunteers, city park employees and tree board went out of their way to clean up the park so we could get the lights out,” Neuman said. ‘We have replaced approximately 36,000 LED lights this year. Rehabbing the older displays continues to be an on-going project. We continue to collaborate with community partners to assist with sign rehab. Having access to the Girl Scout cabin was a big help. We used the former Boy Scout house last year and for a time we did not have a place to headquarter. We are grateful for the Girl Scouts.” Anyone looking for Christmas cheer can find it in abundance (and in living color) every night of the week at this local holiday venue.
