BOYS STATE RECAP – Kingfisher’s Jared Harrison recently recapped the Oklahoma American Legion Boys State week with members of the Kingfisher Lions Club. Kingfisher annually sends one of the state’s larger contingents to the program, which currently takes place in Miami. The Lions Club annually sponsors a delegate from KHS. “We had a really good group of kids from here, all the way up to the staff,” said Harrison, a local attorney who serves as the Boys State deputy director of education. He’s one of several Boys State staff members with Kingfisher ties. This year’s motto was “What unites us is greater than what divides us,” Harrison explained. “Boys State is always about patriotism and I think we got that through to them.” Annually held for young men about to enter their senior year of high school, this year’s program allowed would-be delegates from 2020 who were unable to attend due to its cancellation from COVID-19. Harrison said about 20 percent of this year’s delegates were from last year’s class. [KT&FP Staff Photo]
