Kingfisher High School basketball players raise yet another gold ball on the State Fair Arena floor. The Yellowjackets claimed the 2022 Class 4A state championship last Saturday with their 51-43 victory over Victory Christian. The title is the third straight for KHS and the fourth overall. KHS has played in every 4A state championship game since 2017 as it won the title that year as well as 2019 and 2021. The Jackets were runners-up in 2018 and no tournament was played in 2020. This year’s team finished 28-1, which matched the program’s best record. The story on the championship game can be found on Page 1B. Cashion finished the year with a 24-6 record. The Wildcats won the Three Rivers Conference regular season and tournament titles and were district, regional and area champions in the playoffs. They became the first Cashion boys team to reach the state championship game in basketball. Eight seniors graduate after having helped Cashion reach state three straight times. Kingfisher’s basketball teams gave their fans - and themselves - plenty to be excited about last week. Kingfisher’s girls were defeated 50-41 by Weatherford in the state quarterfinals Tuesday morning, but not before some thrilling moments on the court brought the bench to its feet, or in sophomore Chloe Blair’s case, to the air. The KHS boys made their way into the semifinals with Tuesday night’s 41-28 victory over Blanchard. In that game, Kingfisher nailed nine 3-pointers.
