The OSSAA released the basketball playoff assignments for the two smallest classes last Friday.

Those assignments locally affected Dover and Lomega in Class B and Okarche in Class A.

Two of the local schools will host a district tournament as Lomega will be joined by Dover and Okeene and then Okarche will play host to Ringwood and Kremlin-Hillsdale.

After that, Lomega will be a regional sub-site, meaning it will host Districts 5 and 8 in the first day (Thursday) of that regional tournament.

After that, it’s time to hit the road.

The remainder of the Dover-Lomega regional will be held at Pioneer Pleasant Vale High School and then the area tournament will be hosted at Woodward High School.

Each area has two teams ranked in the top-eight according to the final coaches’ rankings that were released on Jan. 14 prior to the assignments.

Lomega’s girls, at No. 2, are the highest-ranked team in the area. Boise City, ranked eighth, is the other top-eight team.

Other ranked teams in the area are No. 10 Lookeba-Sickles, No. 12 Balko and No. 20 Leedey.

On the boys’ side, Leedey (No. 4) and Lookeba-Sickles (No. 8) are the highest-ranked teams.

Lomega is ranked ninth, Goodwell 14th, Tyrone 15th and Buffalo 17th.

In Class A, Okarche will travel to Shattuck for its regional tournament and then area will be hosted at the Central National Bank Center in downtown Enid.

Both the girls’ and boys’ side are loaded with quality teams.

The girls’ area features top-ranked Seiling, which has won the last three state championships.

Seiling defeated Okarche in double-overtime in last year’s state semifinals.

Okarche is currently ranked ninth and the two teams could potentially meet for a regional championship this year. The Lady Warriors would first have to get by No. 17 Shattuck in the regional opener.

Also ranked in the area are Hydro-Eakly (No. 5), Glencoe (No. 12).

For the boys, Glencoe is the top-ranked team at No. 2 and Okarche is next at No. 8.

Others ranked are Arapaho (No. 12), Seiling (No.

16) and Hydro-Eakly (No. 18).

Two teams from each area will advance to the state tournament.

District tournaments are set to begin Feb. 8. The regional tournaments will be played Feb. 14-16, area tournaments are Feb. 21-23 the state tournaments are Feb. 28-March 2.
