April showers delivered across county

Some areas receive up to 3 inches; more rain expected this week

By

Timely April showers visited Kingfisher County beginning Friday and lasted through Sunday morning.

The showers produced moisture ranging from 1.3 inches at the Mike Rosen residence one mile east of Kingfisher to three inches at the Rick and Robin Johnston residence northwest of Dover.

Local Weather Observer Steven Loftis recorded a total of 1.78 inches of moisture, including 1.35 inches at 7 a.m. Sunday and .43 inch at 7 a.m. Monday.

The readings reflected rainfall during the preceding 24 hours.

The moisture arrived in time to kickstart small grain fields, some of which had begun to turn blue due to drought stress, as well as pastures, lawns and gardens countywide.

Many area grain fields were fully headed out following the rain.

More rainfall is expected to be in the county’s future.

According to the National Weather Service and the Mesonet, there are rain chances every day this week beginning with a chance of storms Tuesday night.
