Authorities confirmed the body of a deceased 2-year-old girl was recovered from Kingfisher Creek on Sunday evening after an ATV accident west of Kingfisher.

The name of the child, from Kingfisher, was not released.

Several agencies began the search after the Kingfisher Fire Department received a call at 7:10 p.m. Sunday.

According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Pedro L. Reta, 23, of Oklahoma City, was driving a Hisun 550 four-wheeler on County Road 2800 about one-fourth of a mile south of State Highway 33.

CR 2800 is about four miles west of Kingfisher and is currently closed to traffic.

The 2-year-old girl and anoth- er 10-year-old girl were on the ATV with him, according to the report, as it traveled south on CR 2800 at a low water crossing.

The ATV was swept off the roadway and all three were separated from the ATV, according to the OHP report.

Neither Reta nor the 10-year-old girl were injured, but the 2-year-old girl was swept away in the current, according to authorities. Her body was recovered at the bridge at County Road 2830, which runs along the west side of Kingfisher Cemetery.

Authorities told the KT&FP that the ATV had crossed the low water crossing multiple times during the day, but the currents got stronger as recent heavy rains brought more water down the creek from the west.

Among those taking part in the search and recovery were the Kingfisher County Emergency Management; KFD; Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office; fire departments from Big Four, Omega and Loyal; emergency management departments from Blaine and Logan counties; OHP; and two technicians from the Guthrie Fire Department swift water team.
