NEW BRIDGE – Traffi c is fl owing over the recently-completed Uncle John Creek Bridge on East Robberts Avenue in Kingfi sher. District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss said the bridge is still awaiting a fi nal check by engineers before the contractor, Sewell Brothers Inc. of Oklahoma City, offi cially turns it over to the county. However the 240-foot long bridge with a 48-ton limit had its barriers removed and has been welcomed by local residents, especially those commuting to the College Hill area of Kingfi sher and other points northeast of the city. The bridge is expected to get heavy usage in the approaching harvest with grain trucks bringing wheat to local elevators. The bridge was completed in near record time. It replaces a nearly 100-year-old bridge, which was closed for several months due to safety issues. Moss said the new bridge, built with the help of federal funds, has cost $1.83 million to date, but will cost about $1.9 million by the time all bills are paid. [KT&FP Staff Photo]
