Board approves contract with Evans
During a special meeting in February, board members voted to remove the “interim” tag from Andy Evans’ role as superintendent.
That move was pending completion of a negotiated contract.
That contract was finalized and approved Monday night after about a 90-minute executive session during which several other personnel moves were discussed.
Board members unanimously approved a two-year contract with Evans, who was originally hired as the interim last October after the death of David Glover.
( Ed. note: The details of the approved contract were not available at press time, but will be noted in an upcoming edition of the KT&FP.)
“I’m excited to be here. I’ve enjoyed working with the board and everyone in the Kingfisher school system,” Evans said.
Evans’ tenure as interim superintendent was met with almost immediate budget issues.
The Kingfisher County Excise Board voted to amend the district’s estimate of needs, a move that ultimately led to a reduction in force in late December.
While working through that, Evans has constantly touted the work of the current staff as well as the students and their many accomplishments.
Several were recognized at Monday’s meeting, including the members of the KHS girls basketball team that were the Class 4A academic state champs, KHS students who earned the sweepstakes award for their performance at the Southwestern Interscholastic Meet and members of the vocal department who earned a superior rating at state and other high marks at the Seiling Music Festival.
“We’re moving foward and we’re seeing great academic progress and we’re making progress with the budget,” Evans said.
This is Evans’ second stint with the school district.
He was employed at KHS from August 1999 through June 2010, serving roles as assistant high school principal, athletic director and middle school principal.
He left to become superintendent at Mountain View-Gotebo for three years and was superintendent at Prague for two years.
Evans then joined the staff at the Oklahoma Public Schools Resource Center in February 2015.
He was the financial services director there when he was hired by KPS in October 2024.
