Candidate filing for municipal seats begins Monday
Candidates interested in filing for municipal offi ce in Kingfisher County municipalities will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3.
Those who wish to file for a municipal office must submit a Declaration of Candidacy to the Kingfisher County Election Board between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The filing period ends Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Candidate filing packets are available on the State Election Board website at https:// oklahoma. gov/ elections/ candidates/ candidate- filing.html and at the County Election Board office.
In addition to the Declaration of Candidacy, candidates must also submit a Voter Registration Verification Form, which can be obtained from the County Election Board or by logging into the OK Voter Portal at https://oklahoma. gov/elections/ovp.html.
Information on the Voter Registration Verification Form must match the information provided on the Declaration of Candidacy.
Shawna Butts, secretary of the Kingfisher County Election Board, reminds candidates that Contests of Candidacy must be filed no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, and may only be filed by another candidate for that office, unless a candidate files unopposed.
Contests against unopposed candidates may be filed by contacting the County Election Board.
Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted for the following offices:
City of Kingfisher
• Commissioner Seat 2 with four-year term
Town of Dover
• Two trustee seats with four-year terms
• Two trustee seats with two-year unexpired terms
Town of Hennessey • Two trustee seats with
four-year terms
• One trustee seat with two-year unexpired term
• Town treasurer, fouryear term Those seeking to file for a seat on the Town of Okarche’s board of trustees will need to file in Canadian County.
Some candidates have indicated they’ll run again for their current seats.
Jeff Wittrock told the KT&FP that he plans to file for the seat he currently holds on the Kingfi sher City Commission.
In Hennessey, Mayor Harold Shaw told the KT&FP he will run again for a four-year term while Trustee David Jones and Treasurer Shelley Burch indicated they haven’t yet decided.
The Kingfisher County Election Board is located at 101 S Main St., Room 8 and is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
