County voters cast ballots

Leaders elected in three towns

By

Town boards in Kingfisher County will have some new faces joining them soon as well as some familiar ones staying on after last Tuesday’s general election.

Voters in Kingfisher County decided races in Hennessey, Dover and Okarche.

Hennessey

Two incumbents will be keeping their respective seats on the Hennessey Board of Trustees.

Five people were running for the open seats and the two people garnering the most votes were declared winners. Those were current Mayor Harold Shaw and Trustee David O. Jones.

Shaw, 58, picked up the most votes with 143 of the 503 cast.

Jones, 68, received 129 votes.

Tim Riddle, a former mayor and trustee in Hennessey, was third with 121 votes.

Miguel Hernandez garnered 58 votes while Evelyn Ramirez had 52.

There was also a race for a two-year unexpired term on the board of trustees.

John Peach, 73, won that race with 144 votes.

He edged Frank Patton, 65, who received 125.

Another close race was that of town treasurer.

Kelley Vaverka won a narrow decision over Shelley Burch 137-130 (51.31% to 48.69%).

Vaverka, 59, is currently the town clerk, an office she’s held since last April.

Dover

Voters in Dover were tasked with picking two people to the board of trustees.

Incumbent Rena Walters picked up 20 of the 45 total votes cast and will serve another four-year term.

Also elected was Angela Kubat, who received 18 votes. This was Kubat’s first time to run for office.

James Mike Walters garnered seven votes.

Okarche

Judd Kroener will fill Office No. 2 on the town’s board of trustees.

Kroener, 53, defeated Keith Griesel 100-27.

The election consisted of voters in both Kingfisher and Canadian counties.

Among the voters in Kingfisher County, 82 cast a ballot for Kroener and 19 for Griesel.
