Deatherage resigns as KCEM director
Kingfisher County commissioners removed Ryan Deatherage as requisition officer for all Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), 911 and emergency management accounts Tuesday at their weekly meeting.
District 1 County Commissioner Jeff Moss advised the Times & Free Press representative at the meeting that Deatherage has resigned his position as county emergency management director.
Nothing appeared on the agenda regarding Deatherage’s resignation other than his removal as requisition officer.
Two representatives of KOCO TV in Oklahoma City, Olivia Hickey and Christopher Peters, attended the meeting. No reason was given for their attendance, though KOCO did report last Friday on Deatherage’s resignation.
Deatherage has been the 911 and emergency management director for the county since April 2024 when longtime director Steve Loftis retired.
He also serves on the Oklahoma State Board of Education after having been appointed earlier this year by Governor Kevin Stitt.
Deatherage did not attend the OSBE’s meeting held last week.
Actions taken at the meeting included:
• Approval of Zyzer of Kingfisher to proceed on fall chip and seal projects in all three districts. Zyzer submitted the low bid to earn the contract at an earlier meeting.
• Appointment of Trevor Rogers to serve on the Crescent EMS board. The service area reaches into Kingfisher County.
• Accepted Matt Murray’s resignation from the Kingfisher 522 ambulance board and appointed Omega Fire Chief BJ Waeger to succeed him.
• Removed Taylor Winters as requisitioning officer for District 3 and added Dennis Holmes to all District 3 accounts.
• Approved the monthly report of the election board and state reimbursement claims for the election board and district attorney’s offices for the month of September.
All commissioners – Anthony Schwarz, District 3, chairman.; Moss, District 1, vice chairman, and Michael Sparks, District 2, were present, along with Randy Poindexter of Cashion, former Kingfisher Fire Chief and Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department officer, current Kingfisher Fire Chief Ryan Gibson, County Clerk Emily Lee as official minute clerk, County Engineer Nik Smith and Sheriff Aaron Pitts.
