Area sees its first rain since November
Crop-boosting rains fell across Kingfisher County early Thursday.
Amounts of .8 inch and another of a little more were recorded on unofficial gauges at two locations near Kingfisher, one along Shafenberg Road a mile east of Kingfi sher and another at the Twila Adams residence five miles east of Kingfi sher.
The Kingfisher Mesonet site recorded .95 inch. Local Weather Observer Steven Loftis recorded a total of .91 inch at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfi sher.
It was the first recorded rainfall there since Nov. 25.
Other area reports included: Okarche Grain and Feed Elevator, about .6 inch; Hennessey CHS Elevator, .36 inch; Mike Reid, 3.5 miles southwest of Kingfisher on Park Community Road, .8 inch; Tom Arms, three miles west of Kingfisher, .6 inch; Marsha Reherman of Kingfisher, .9 inch; Dillon Ellis, south of Okarche, 1.1 inches; JoAnn Holthus, east of Dover, one inch; Cathy Howard of Lacey, .36 inch, and Mike Rosen, east of Kingfisher, .6 inch.
The Kingfisher vicinity had water standing in some fields following the early morning showers.
The needed moisture is expected to provide additional growth to wheat, which has been standing still since plants came up shortly after sowing.
New growth will be welcome, especially on acreage that is supporting livestock.
Randall Varnell, manager of Wheeler Brothers Elevator in Kingfisher, reported a total of .9 inch at the Kingfisher Elevator and .55 inch at the Omega elevator.
“We needed it,” Varnell said.
