Photographs tell the story of a community.

With thousands of images in its collection, The Chisholm is seeking volunteers to bring those stories to life and preserve them for future generations.

As staff at the museum work to digitize an extensive, local photograph collection that once belonged to Meacham Studios, Executive Director Jason Harris said they are looking for interested volunteers who may be nostalgic, enjoy identifying people and places, or simply want to assist with the project.

“This unique collection contains over 100,000 images, capturing decades of life in Kingfisher and surrounding areas,” Harris

said.

“While the museum has already made significant progress on this exciting project, we need your help to continue preserving these important memories for future generations.”

The museum is looking for volunteers who can dedicate a few hours each month to the effort.

The digitization process is straightforward and involves using a scanner and computer to create high-quality digital copies of these treasured photographs, Harris said.

No prior experience is necessary as the collections staff will provide all the training and support needed for volunteers.

Volunteering for this project is a wonderful opportunity to connect with Kingfisher’s history and help ensure these images are preserved for years, Harris said.

“Your efforts will contribute to building a valuable resource that celebrates the people, events and places that have shaped our community,” Harris added.

“Whether you have a passion for history, a love for photography, or simply want to give back to your community, the museum invites you to join them in this important work.

“Together, we can preserve the rich history of Kingfisher, Kingfisher County and the state of Oklahoma.”
