Monday wreck claims 2 lives
Two people died and another was injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 81 about eight miles north of Hennessey in Garfield County.
Pronounced dead at the scene were Adrian Galaviz, 24, Hennessey, and Janet Hicks, 63, Marshall.
The accident occurred at 7:05 a.m. at Sumner Road north of Bison, about four miles south of Waukomis, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
Galaviz was driving southbound in a 2013 Nissan when his vehicle left the roadway to the right, re-entered the southbound lanes and departed to the left where it went into a slide in the median before it crossed into the northbound lanes.
Galaviz’s vehicle then collided with a 2004 GMC Envoy driven by Hicks.
Injured was Mathew Hicks, 29, Marshall, a passenger in the GMC.
He was transported by medical helicopter to the OU Trauma Center, according to the OHP report.
The extent of his injuries, or his condition, were not available.
Only Mathew Hicks was wearing a seatbelt, the report shows.
Waukomis firefighters were first on the scene and pronounced both drivers were deceased.
The conditions of the drivers, and the reason for Galaviz leaving the roadway, were still under investigation, according to the OHP report.
