New roof needed at Lacy School
Fundraiser Saturday for building that now serves as community center
The Lacy School cafeteria has been used as the Lacy Community Center for many years and the roof has been patched several times.
Now the roof must be replaced and the center doesn’t have that much money.
That’s why those in charge of the center are asking for help.
Dinner and an Auction
A fundraiser dinner and auction is planned this Saturday, July 12, in Hennessey at The Gathering Place (from U.S. Highway 81 east onto Conoco Road and watch for wood sign on the south side of street).
Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. with the auction at 6:30 p.m.
The meal will include pulled pork sandwiches with Danny Bossa at the grill and the pork courtesy Seaboard Farms.
Members of the Lacy Card Club will bring desserts and chips. Plates and more will be supplied by Hennessey’s Community Action Team who are co-hosting the event with the Lacy group.
Tim Holder will sing and play his guitar during dinner then Jimmy Berkenbile will take the microphone for the auction.
Want to Donate Auction Items?
If you have items to donate, check them in when you get there.
Those who are unable to attend, but have auction items and need someone to pick them up should call Gary Hawk, Lacy Community Center president, at 405-853-1169 or Secretary- Treasurer Aaron Swart at 405-368-7089.
The Roof
There have been many patches to the roof at the Lacy Community Center over the years, Hawk had told members.
He had a bid for more patch work, or a new roof, and it was decided to go for a new roof.
Sincetherewasn’tenough money in the account for a new one, the group decided to have an auction.
The building could use some interior work, too, and those issues might be addressed if enough money is raised, but the main concern is the roof.
The Lacy Community Center
The center is located 10.5 miles west of Hennessey on State Highway 51.
It is currently used every other Thursday night by Pitch Card Club members. They also have a covered dish dinner and on each card night, members make donations that now cover the monthly electric bill.
There are usually between 12-16 players at the card parties and members of that group will also participate in the fundraiser event by providing desserts and auction items.
Lacy School reunions continue to be held at the center and those students now meet every two years.
It is also used by other groups at the discretion of the center’s board of directors.
