Page repeats as Elks Hoop Shoot national runner-up

By

For the second straight year, Pressley Page had to make room for a very large trophy on her way home from Chicago.

The Kingfisher fourth grader was the runner-up in the 10-11 year-old girls division at the Elks National Hoop Shoot competition last weekend.

It was much the same a year ago for the daughter of Brady and Lindsey Page.

Pressley was the national runner-up in 8-9 year-old girls division in 2024.

To get back to nationals this year, Pressley won an open qualifier, repeated as the state champ and then won the Southwest Region 11 competition in Dallas.

That earned her a trip back to Chicago.

During this year’s national competition, Pressley made 20 of 25 free throws, which tied her for second place and put her in a shootoff.

Once there, Pressley made all 10 of her attempts to claim the runner-up honor as her fellow competitor was 9 of 10.

Pressley was part of a strong Oklahoma contingent at this year’s nationals. Cooper Thompson of Inola was the 12-13 yearold boys national champ as he made all 25 of his free throws in the competition and then all five in a shootoff.

His older brother, Caden Thompson, was the 1213 year-old boys national champ in 2020.

Turner Iven of Arcadia was third in the 10-11 year-old boys division as he made 22 of 25.

Amalyn Switzer of Leedey made 21 of 25 to take sixth in the 12-13 yearold girls competition.

Kingfisher has one former national champion in its ranks. Chris Combs won the 8-9 year-old boys national title in 1982.
