Schwarz voted BOCC chair
Shimanek, Boevers sit in on final meeting before retiring; other new officers prepare to take oaths
District 2 County Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek and County Clerk Jeannie Boevers attended their final meetings in their official capacities Monday.
Both are retiring after long careers in county government effective Tuesday.
Their successors, Mike Sparks of Hennessey as District 2 commissioner and Emily Lee of Hennessey as county clerk, along with Lauren Stroh of Okarche, who is succeeding another long-time official who is retiring, Court Clerk Lisa Markus, as well as Aaron Pitts of Hennessey who is succeeding Dennis Banther as sheriff, will take their oaths of office at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kingfisher County District courtroom.
None of the retiring officers sought re-election.
During the county commissioner meeting Monday, Commissioners elected District 3 commissioner Anthony Schwarz of Okarche as chairman for the calendar year 2025 and Jeff Moss, District 1 as vice chairman, giving Sparks a year of experience before assigning him extra duty.
Moss served as chairman in 2024.
The last commissioner meeting of the year lasted only 10 minutes.
Actions taken included:
• Approval of the sixmonth bid lists for road and bridge materials and commercial roadway work in all three districts as tabulated lowest to highest. The bids were opened two weeks earlier and tabled for action last week to allow commissioners additional study.
• Approval of the contract for the Big 4 Fire department remodel and notice to proceed.
• Approval of the sheriff’s department commissary/ inmate financial report with a $32,005.09 ending balance.
• Approval of dividing ARPA money balance of $108,907.41 between the three commissioner districts.
All commissioners were present for the meeting along with Banther, Sharp, Lee and Kelly Buck, a local visitor.
