Some areas see over 3 inches of rain
Welcome rain arrived beginning Monday in Kingfisher and Kingfisher County.
Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis recorded 1.15 inches on Monday and another 1.06 inches on Tuesday, a total of 2.21 inches, bringing the rainfall total for August to 2.84 inches and the year-to-date total to 28.31 inches.
The moisture boosted pastures, summer crops, lawns and gardens countywide while also giving thirsty grain fields a pre-planting drink.
Fall sowing of wheat and rye will begin soon locally and statewide.
The local Mesonet site west of Kingfisher recorded a total of 2.99 inches up to Tuesday morning with light rain continuing to fall.
Other area Mesonet reports included: Guthrie 2.71 inches; Watonga 3.81 inches; El Reno 2.90 inches; Marshall .76 inch and Yukon 3.29 inches. Woodward recorded the heaviest rainfall through Tuesday morning at 5.35 inches.
The forecast for the county calls for more rain through Friday with high temperature readings in the 70s and low 80s.
The rain ended a string of extremely warm days, hitting 99 degrees at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfisher and over 100 degrees at the Mesonet station. The CHS Elevator at Hennessey recorded .8 inch through Tuesday morning.
Cashion Grain and Feed Elevator reported three inches.
Michael Swisher reported 3.2 inches at his residence in Kingfisher.
Mike and Donna Reid southwest of Kingfisher reported three inches.
A rain gauge along Shafenberg Road east of Kingfisher showed 2.5 inches.
Twila Adams reported 3.5 inches total at her residence five miles east of Kingfisher.
Donald Schweitzer of Omega reported a total of 3.9 inches.
Okarche Grain and Feed elevator recorded “just a hair under three inches.”
CHS Elevator at Omega recorded 5.35 inches.
The Clark Vilhauer residence at Loyal reported 3.9 inches since Monday.
