Something Old, Something New!

This year’s Christmas parade in Kingfisher will culminate with a fireworks spectacular that has garnered the event much acclaim over the last decade.

But this year it will offer even more.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shauna Rupp, her staff and board of directors announced this year’s show that puts the exclamation point on a day full of activities will also feature a drone show.

With the fireworks and drones complementing each other in the nighttime sky, it will give young and old alike a double visual treat as the holiday season begins.

This year’s parade and fireworks/drone spectacular is Saturday, Dec. 6. The parade begins in downtown Kingfisher at 6 p.m. ( Editor’s note: For much more on the day full of activities, see Pages 2B and 3B of this edition.)

The chamber hired Precision Fireworks LLC of Era, Texas, to put on this year’s show.

The company is operated by Jesse Williams, owner, and assisted by John Griffin and staff.

They will be in town next Saturday afternoon to set up on the roofs of InterBank and the Kingfisher Times & Free Press to orchestrate the two-for-one visual event which traditionally concludes the much-anticipated parade.

“We’re very excited to bring Jesse and his crew to Kingfisher,” Rupp said. “They come to us with a great reputation and we think those in attendance will be thrilled with the show.”

The drone light show is a synchronized aerial display in which 200 illuminated drones fly in choreographed patterns to create images, animations and shapes in the night sky.

These shows are created using pre-programmed flight paths and software that guides the drones, which are equipped with GPS, sensors and high-precision lighting.

“The drones themselves are actually small in size, comparable to a small pizza,” Williams said. “We will be flying the drones, choreographed to Christmas music. It takes months of planning to finalize all design work in preparation for a drone show.

“The system we use has multiple geo fences which is our safety perimeter. Drone light shows actually have a larger safety area than most fireworks displays and we follow all FAA requirements and regulations.”

Williams said he’s confident the fireworks and drones working together will add to the tradition already established with Kingfisher’s Christmas celebration.

“This year’s Kingfisher show will be very unique,” Williams said. “I love fireworks and Christmas time and when you throw the drones into the mix, we will be creating a magical Christmas experience similar to a Hallmark movie.”
