Vote tabled regarding firearm policy for county’s employees
Kingfisher County commissioners delayed deciding for another week whether to change the county’s firearm policy.
They had tabled action on the agenda item a week earlier when District 2 Commissioner Michael Sparks moved to make a change in the county handbook to allow county road crew members to carry weapons, citing the potential need due to many firearm incidents nationwide currently. Sparks had noted road workers often are isolated in remote areas.
Commission chairman Anthony Schwarz recommended delaying action last week in order to obtain recommendations from both District Attorney Tommy Humphries’ office and the county’s insurance providers.
Sparks moved Monday to table action for another week in order to review material obtained on the matter.
Commissioners took the following actions on the remaining agenda items as follow:
• Approved allowing an access drive for Ovintiv Energy for a new well site at a location 7.5 miles west of Okarche in the south half of SW/4 Sec. 36-15-9 with 18-inch culverts in District 3.
• Approved road crossings for three six-inch steel gas lines for Enlink Midstream at the following locations: six miles west and 2.5 miles north, 5.5 miles west and three miles north and five miles west and three miles north of Okarche in District 3.
• Approved removing Jeff Johnson and adding Brandon Haymaker as receiving officer for the Dover Fire Department.
• Approved a road right-of-way for AT&T Enterprises for a permanent utility line four miles east of Kingfi sher in District 1.
• Approved minutes of the Sept. 2 meeting and agenda, purchase orders, warrants and payroll for Sept. 8.
• Approved August reports for the following: health department, election board, assessor, county clerk and court clerk.
• Approved state reimbursements to the county for offices of district attorney and election board for the month of August.
• Approved credit card payment of $1,476.07.
Commissioners took no action regarding monthly appropriations, Smith to check out activity at a location 3.5 miles west of Loyal where equipment has been reported in a shale pit located in a flood plain. Schwarz also reported he would attend a meeting Thursday of the Wheatheart Nutrition Board of Directors of which he is a member representing Kingfi sher County.
