‘Christmas IS a Big Deal...’
50-foot tree arrives from Michigan in time for KWN
The community showed up Thursday for the arrival of Kingfisher Winter Nights’ newest and biggest - attraction.... and in more ways than one.
The 50-foot Norwegian spruce completed its journey from Michigan and arrived at its new home at the entrance of Kingfisher Park at noon.
High Pressure Transports of Kingfisher hauled the anticipated freight, receiving a police escort from Hennessey to the park.
Once there, Tony’s Pump & Supply provided a crane to lift the tree from the trailer and into the ground by city crews.
Cory Mueggenborg of Mueggenborg Construction provided a lift to install the tree topper, which was built by Ora Yoder.
Mueggenborg and Chris Cameron assisted Yoder in installing the topper as they dangled more than 50 feet in the air.
After it was installed, Cimarron Electric helped supply the power to light up the topper.
The tree will now be decorated with thousands of lights and will be a part of the opening night ceremony for Kingfi sher Winter Nights.
The tree will be lit up to signal the opening of the annual lights attraction at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.
In his report to city commissioners last Tuesday, City Manager Jim Thomas made note of all the community support made available in making the new attraction a reality.
He also said work was almost complete on repairs to the train track that runs through the park.
The open air train rides are a major feature of the Kingfisher Winter Nights activities. The city last month approved track repairs for nearly $60,000 to ensure the train’s viability for this year’s KWN season.
