‘No Greater Love’ cantata scheduled Palm Sunday at Methodist Church
“No Greater Love,” an Easter cantata which remembers the death and resurrection of Jesus through song, will be presented at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Kingfisher First United Methodist Church.
Performed by the church’s Chancel Choir, joined by choir members from other local churches, the cantata is directed by Teresa Greco and accompanied by pianist Roberta Nicholas.
Composed by Lloyd Larson, the musical presentation is written through the lens of John 15:13 – “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”
The choir will sing the cantata composed of original material and familiar hymns of varying styles, which are woven together in seven movements that describe the events of Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Jesus’ triumphant resurrection Easter morning.
“It is a creative and beautiful way to experience the path of Jesus to the cross,” said Rev. Dr. Jennifer Long, church pastor.
The Chancel Choir performs each Sunday under the direction of Greco, accompanied by Nicholas.
Greco is enthusiastic about adding voices from other church choirs for Sunday’s presentation.
“Seeing friends from many churches gathering for this event is a beautiful experience and it is heartwarming to see the ecumenical spirit at work, especially during this Holy Season,” she said.
“This kind of collaboration is truly a blessing for our community.
“I am so thankful to all of our choir members for giving so generously of their gifts of time and talent in the ministry of music.”
The musical event is free and open to the public.
