100 YEARS OF ROTARY IN KINGFISHER
Reherman, Flood provide 100-year history of Kingfisher’s Rotary Club
Carolyn Flood and Darcy Reherman presented Kingfisher Rotarians and guests with a 100-year history of the Kingfisher Rotary Club last Tuesday.
Reherman scoured the archives of the Kingfisher Times and Kingfisher Free Press to locate photos and news stories of the club’s meetings and events that were shown on a screen, while Flood narrated the club’s accomplishments over the years.
Two items of note were that Kingfisher had no chamber of commerce when the club was formed, so Rotarians took on the challenge of raising funds to build a swimming pool for the community as well as a constructing a cotton gin as the first big projects that began when the club was formed in 1925.
Since that time, Rotary has always been a working club with projects which include annual trash pickup days citywide and providing scholarships to attend college through the John A. Francis scholarship fund.
Kingfisher’s club also produced three district governors over the years:Don Hellwege, L.D. Coggins and Harold Hubbard.
Rotary dignitaries present for the meeting were Rotary District Governor Jack Werner, Assistant Governor Harry Patel, District Governor-Elect Mack Patel and District Governor-Nominee Michael Trewitt.
The meeting was presided over by current Kingfisher Rotary President Jon Benham while Vice President Brian Walter contributed as well.
Other officers of the club are Reherman, treasurer, and Barry Reid, secretary.
