5 towns, county higher in August sales tax report
Five Kingfisher County municipalities – Kingfisher, Okarche, Dover, Loyal and Cashion – as well as Kingfisher County received bigger sales tax checks in August than in August 2022, according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission report.
Cashion led the parade with a 700% bigger check than last August at $127,401.07 compared to $18,018.68 the preceding August.
The Aug. 9, 2023 distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from June business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from June 16 to 30 and estimated sales from July 1 to 15.
The disbursement of $204,828,404 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $7,049,394 from the $197,779,010 distributed to them in August last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $34,215,059.

The use tax check report was a different story with most entities showing smaller checks.
Use tax is collected on purchases made out of state for delivery within the entity and often include tax on items used by oil companies.
Use tax is collected at the same rate as an entity’s sales tax.
