7 KHS band members plus director take part in Classic Bowl festivities
A number of members of the Pride of Kingfisher marching band took part earlier this month in the Classic Bowl XXXIV festivities in Woodward.
The week culminated June 4 when 200 band members performed during the annual Classic Bowl Parade in Woodward, then later that night during the Classic Bowl football game.
Students applied in March to be a part of the band.
Selected from Kingfisher were Emily Altizer, KC Ortega, Angela Munoz, Alessandro Cuellar, Colton Livingston, Ana Cuellar and Erica Jenkins-Harris.
They were joined by students from 30 other bands in Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma to take part in the festivities.
The band was directed by Brian Britt, director of the Pride of Oklahoma marching band at the University of Oklahoma.
Mandy Owens, director of the Kingfisher band, was also on hand to assist.
Owens was in charge of teaching the trumpet section the music and march ing drill.
Band members first rehearsed Thursday and Friday (June 2-3) at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva and then again the Saturday morning before the parade.
“We rehearsed approximately 18 hours combined,” Owens said.
Then came the performances, which included renditions of “Sweet Caroline” as well as the Classic Bowl Medley, which is comprised of “The Eyes of Texas,” the Kansas state song, “Oklahoma!” and “America the Beautiful.”
“The students did a phenomenal job with their performances,” Owens said.
