An event is planned in Kingfisher this month to benefit a group that battles against sex trafficking and exploitation.

Destiny Rescue’s Freedom Weekend will be held Oct. 21-22.

Federated Church Lead Pastor Luke Aadalen spoke last week to Kingfisher Rotary Club members about the event.

Sponsored by the Kingfi sher Ministerial Alliance, the two-day event will feature a fundraiser walk on Kingfisher Trails, live music, food trucks for lunch on Saturday and a concert by the Billy Ballenger Band on Sunday evening at the Federated Church.

Destiny Rescue is an international Christian-based non-profit organization which rescues the sexually exploited and enslaved, and also works to restore the abused and protect the vulnerable while empowering them to reclaim their lives, Aadalen told Rotarians.

Destiny Rescue works through avenues of rescuing, restoring and prevention.

The rescue part comes via undercover agents who enter brothels to win a child’s trust and offer freedom. Agents also work with law enforcement to enter brothels and arrest traffickers.

Once children are rescued, Destiny Rescue works to restore.

Case workers assess and help rescued children towards their best future, whether it be in their own home, a group home run by Destiny Rescue or semi-independent living with oversight from a caseworker.

There’s also prevention. Destiny Rescue uses education, awareness and specialized programs to protect at-risk children from being exploited.

Events on Saturday, Oct. 21, run from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., beginning at the band shell and the trails at Newfield Community Park.

There will also be a benefi t concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Federated Church.
