Accident claims Omega woman

By

A husband and three children have been joined by the entire Lomega community in mourning the sudden passing of a local woman.

Karina Saldaña Castro, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene of an automobile accident Saturday afternoon.

According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Castro was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox north on N2700 Road less than a mile south of Lomega High School.

At about 3:10 p.m., the report said the vehicle left the road to the right, over-corrected into the ditch, over-corrected again and rolled two to three times, the report said.

Castro was ejected from the car.

The report said the cause of the vehicle leaving the road was unknown. Castro suffered head and trunk injuries and was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.

Among those she leaves behind are her husband, Froylan Rivera and three children who attend Lomega: Dafne, a junior; Diego, a freshman; and Froylan, a seventh grader.

“She was a very sweet lady,” recalls Lomega High School Principal Cory Wilson. “She was always willing to help with class fundraisers, projects or any other way she could.

“And she’s got three great kids.”

Services for Castro were still pending at press time as travel arrangements were necessary for some family members, including her parents.

An account to assist the family has been set up.

Memorial donations can be made to: Froylan Rivera Family, Community National Bank, 653 N. Main, Okarche OK 73762.

The OHP was assisted at the scene of the accident by Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office; Omega, Loyal and Watonga fire departments; and Kingfisher EMS.
