Additional rains have Cimarron River near flood stage
Much of Kingfisher County got another round of rain Thursday night and Friday morning and the amounts have the Cimarron River nearing flood stage.
The overnight rain, which affected most of western Oklahoma, totaled 1.7 inches in Kingfisher and raised Kingfisher’s total rain for November to 6.5 inches.
Some areas of the county received much more – along the Cimarron River – east of Kingfisher, with some residents reporting up to nine inches before Thursday night’s rainfall.
Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis recorded 1.7 inches at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfisher.
The Mesonet location immediately west of Kingfi sher on the Mueggenborg farm recorded 1.92 inches and Tom Arms, three miles west of Kingfisher received 2.2 inches.
Others reporting to the Tom Arms Facebook post included: JoAnn Holthus, 2 inches northeast of Dover; Sabrina Nault, 1.8 inches northwest of Kingfisher; Moe Dillard, 2.8 inches five miles south of Loyal; Dave Krittenbrink, 1.8 inches in Okarche Twila Adams, five miles east of Kingfisher, reported 1.5 inches; Mike and Donna Reid reported 1.8 inches at their residence about three miles southwest of Kingfisher; Robin Johnston registered 2.5 inches northwest of Dover.
Hollis in far Southwest Oklahoma recorded 2.07 inches. Much of the Panhandle received significant rain.
Beaver recorded 1.89 inches while Boise City at the far west end of the Panhandle showed 1.9 inches.
Other Mesonet readings across the area recorded the following amounts: El Reno, 1.31 inches; Watonga, 1.71 inches; Guthrie, .73 inch; Marshall, 1.44 inches, and Weatherford, 2.28 inches.
The rains here and west of here have officials keeping an eye on the Cimarron River.
A flood advisory has been issued in Kingfisher County through Sunday afternoon.
The river is expected to crest at 16.5 feet over the weekend.
Flood stage is 17.0 feet while “near bankfull conditions exist along the river” at 16.0 feet.
According to the advisory, the river will be at least at near bankfull conditions through Kingfisher County and into western Logan County.
