Altar Society learns of ‘GOLD’ ministry

Sts. Peter and Paul Altar Society met Wednesday, April 6, with 19 members and guests present.

After a short business meeting, Donna Krittenbrink introduced the guest speaker, Sister Maria Faulkner.

Sister Maria is from the Gospel of Life Disciples, who minister to the elderly and terminally ill.

She spoke about “GOLD” homes, which stands for Gospel of Life Dwellings. They’re family homes

They’re family homes where the disciples live with those who would otherwise be alone at the end of their lives.

The program is free of charge to residents and runs solely by donations and volunteers. She said they live the

She said they live the corporal and spiritual works of mercy by accompanying frail elders and the dying with life-affirming care for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. Sister Maria said anyone

Sister Maria said anyone wishing to help is asked to pray for the ministry, volunteer individually or as a group to cook a meal, help with laundry, read a story or just be present to visit with residents.

Monetary gifts are always needed and appreciated, she said.

At the conclusion of the presentation, Altar Society members voted to make a donation to the ministry and several members talked of going to volunteer. There are two dwellings in the Oklahoma City area.

Other business included an update from the scholarship committee noting the deadline for applications was April 4. The committee will meet April 19 to go over applications.

The Sanctity of Life project was updated by Irene Garrett. Many ladies of the parish met on the Tuesdays of Lent to sew, making quilts and bibs to donate.

Others who couldn’t come worked from home sewing, crocheting blankets and quilting.

Receiving blankets, diapers, socks, clothes and many other baby items have been donated.

The committee will now check to see where the items are needed most and divided up to those organizations.

Father Francis Nguyen of Sts. Peter and Paul will be celebrating the 20-year anniversary of his ordination as a priest as well as his 10-year anniversary at Sts. Peter and Paul Church.

A celebration is planned for May 29, with a potluck dinner. More information to come later.

Cynthia Eaton will host the Altar Society end-of-year social with a cookout on May 4 at 6 p.m.

Outgoing officers will help host. New officers will be installed. Secret sisters will be revealed.

The meeting adjourned with a closing prayer by Ann Finley. Berniece Krittenbrink won the door prize.
