Altar Society members gather for March meeting

By

The Sts. Peter & Paul Altar Society met Wednesday, March 12, with a busy agenda due to the February meeting having been canceled due to inclement weather.

President Ann Finley called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Opening prayer was led by Francene Eaton.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Minutes were read by Carol Morkes and approved as read.

Carolyn Schulte gave the treasurer’s report and Morkes gave the Memorial Fund report.

In old business, Cynthia Eaton reported there had been no funeral dinners in the last two months.

Debbie Farrell gave a report on the pickle ball courts in Ross Hall. Groups are playing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

As part of the group’s lessons in January, which focused on visiting the sick, a group of the ladies went to Oklahoma City on Jan. 31 to visit and have lunch with parishioners who now live in assisted living homes.

This was very well received and future visits will be planned.

In new business, the ladies voted to donate to the church’s youth group in appreciation for their assistance working at the annual turkey dinner.

The youth assist in the dining room and in carry-out every year.

A committee was appointed to pursue having new frames constructed for the antique Stations of the Cross that are believed to be from the church before a renovation was done in 1957. These are paintings done on sheets of copper.

Dorothy Hallock, Eaton and Finley will serve on the committee and report back to the group.

Father Ben recently returned from his home country of Myanmar where he celebrated the 35th anniversary of his ordination with his home Diocese and his family members.

A local celebration is being planned and members passed a sign-up sheet to help with this event, tentatively planned for Sunday, March 30 after the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

Francene Eaton gave this month’s lesson which focused on “visit the imprisoned” and “ clothe the naked.”

In keeping with the “clothe the naked,” the group had already started its Lenten sewing project on Tuesday.

Many baby quilts and lap robes are being sewed. They received donations of batting and fabric.

Baby clothing is being donated by parishioners. All items are given to agencies, nursing homes and DHS at the end of the Lenten season.

This is a continuation of a project that has gone on for several years at the parish.

Hostesses were Morkes and Janice Payne.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, April 9, with Finley and Nancy Altman as hostesses.

Special prayer intentions were read prior to the closing prayer.

The meeting was adjourned.
