Altar Society preps for annual turkey dinner
The Sts. Peter & Paul Altar Society met in the Parish Hall at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The meeting was hosted by Irene Garrett and Karen Mueggenborg who served sub sandwiches, fresh vegetables and dips.
The meeting was called to order by Ann Finley, president.
After prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, the minutes were read and approved and the financial reports were given.
Cynthia Eaton reported there had been no funeral dinners in the last month.
Nancy Altman gave a report on the progress of signing families up for the upcoming church directory photos.
Discussion then moved to the annual turkey dinner, which is fast approaching and will be held, as always, on the first Sunday of November.
That date this year is Nov. 2.
The prices will remain at $15 for all adult meals and carry-out meals.
All carry-out meals will be adult meals to aid in the efficiency of the team preparing the meals.
Rather than a chairman for this year’s dinner, a committee had been formed to assist with the complex workload the din- ner currently requires.
Sherry Trent, Debbie Farrell and Cindy Wilczek have been hard at work on this committee.
Group chairmen were encouraged to begin calling for the food items needed on the day of the dinner.
Dates were announced for turkey pickup, turkey baking and boning, making the cornbread for the dressing, cooking celery and onions and setting up Ross Hall dining room.
Dressing will be made on Nov. 1.
Eaton has called the list of those cutting and drying the bread, which was picked up with the turkeys on Oct. 15.
Youth group sign-ups have been given to Sandy Murray for assignments for those helping out with serving, dish-washing and clean-up.
All work assignment chairmen have been notifi ed by Janet Pennington to call their team to report on “Turkey Dinner Day.”
The meeting closed with a prayer and was quickly adjourned to allow the members to attend the showing of the movie “Soul on Fire,” which was being showed at the local theater.
The next meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 and will be hosted by Pennington and Cindy Gruntmeir.
