Arbor Day Addition for KGSA
Tree Board, Snow family install new tree at youth softball fields
In celebration of this year’s Arbor Day, Kingfisher Tree Board, in conjunction with the Kingfisher Girls Softball Association, planted a tree at the Briscoe Softball Complex replacing one which was originally installed in 2006 in honor of Janet Snow.
At the time of the original planting, a memorial bench was also installed beneath the tree with the words “In Memory of Janet Snow - for the love of the game - 2006.”
A Chinese Pistache was planted to replace the original Mulberry tree, which KGSA member Brad Wittrock said had begun to require extra effort to maintain and was also attracting wasps, which became a safety issue for children at the softball fields.
Janet, who was married to Steve Snow, passed away in 2005.

Additionally, the tree board trims and maintains the trees on all Kingfisher Public Schools campuses and downtown, as well as others, Walter said. For the past 20 years, Kingfisher has been designated by the Arbor Day Foundation as a “Tree City USA Community.” “The tree board works to promote our community through beautification,” Walter said. He added that the tree board meets once a month to trim and maintain public trees throughout the city and continually welcomes volunteers. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s steady progress,” Walter said. “Much of the work is accomplished in just one hour a month which enhances and beautifies our community.” For more information about the Kingfisher Tree Board contact Brian Walter at 405-368-6775.
They had two children, Cterling, who was present with his wife Nicki and oldest son Slade for the recent tree planting dedication, and Chelsea Snyder, who was unable to attend.
In high school, Chelsea was involved in softball and her mother spent many hours at the softball fields watching her games, Cterling said.
Also present for the dedication were members of the KGSA and the Kingfisher Tree Board.
Celebrating the Tree Board’s 20th anniversary this year, President Brian Walter said the most recent planting is just one of many projects the board has accomplished throughout the years.
One of the group’s first projects, Walter said, was the planting of trees around the Kingfisher High School football field and was spearheaded by founding tree board member and longtime KHS teacher Richard Lemon.
Other highlights of the tree board’s efforts include planting of 100 trees at Centennial Grove at the Kingfisher Upper Elemen-
