Area seniors may miss out on college $

By

With a little over a week left until the March 24 deadline, Communities Foundation of Oklahoma said two local college scholarships aren’t receiving much interest – the Doug Fisher Agricultural Memorial Scholarship and the Rodney Hobbs Memorial Scholarship.

“We are struggling to get applications for the scholarships,” Rachel Hunter, CFO’s communication director wrote in an email to the Times & Free Press. “We would love to spread the word so we can give away the scholarships to those in need.”

The Fisher scholarship is available to Kingfisher or Lomega High School graduating seniors who are pursuing an ag-based major and who have at least a 2.5 GPA and display character and leadership.

The Hobbs scholarship is available to a Dover High School graduating senior who plans to attend college.

CFO offers over 200 scholarship opportunities, many of which are supported by funds contributed by county donors, families, organizations and businesses.

County students from every educational, geographic and socioeconomic background are encouraged to fill out the universal online application at www.cfok.org/ apply, which will then direct them to the scholarships for which they are eligible.

“Communities Foundation of Oklahoma is proud of our diverse offering of scholarships and what they can provide to students in our state,” said Austin Klososky, CFO Director of Scholarships.

“Due to the generosity of our donors, we truly do have an opportunity for almost everyone.

“After the last couple of years, we hope these scholarships can provide some much-needed relief for those who need it the most.”
