Arts festival to honor community leader
Kingfisher Creative is honor ing one of its longtime members and supporters at an all-day Festival of the Arts scheduled for June 4.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kingfisher County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building.
“We wanted to dedicate this festival to our late and dear friend Scott Osborn, who was always a big part of Kingfisher Creative and, in fact, usually spearheaded our previous festivals,” Kingfisher Creative President Mike Brown said.
Brown said hand-drawn portraits of Osborn and “Live Like Scott” affirmation cards will be sold at the event, with proceeds going to Jase’s Magic Closet.
The charity was created by the Children’s Hospital Foundation in honor of Jase Bollenbach, a Kingfisher boy who recently died following a near lifelong cancer battle who was a close friend of Osborn’s.
Jase’s Magic Closet will provide toys and gifts to other children receiving treatment at the hospital.
The arts festival is the first hosted since 2013 by Kingfisher Creative, which has focused on live theater productions and other events in the meantime.
“It was something that we did years back but had fallen by the wayside,” Brown said.
“With a new and revitalized board of directors, we decided we wanted to do more than just plays and dinner theaters in our wonderful community to help further the arts.
“We see this as being our first festival of the arts, but most certainly not our last and we have more things that we are looking to possibly bring as well.”
Admission is free for the festival, which will include vendors from across the state.
The day also will include live art demos featuring painting, glass blowing and basket weaving, live music, food trucks, snow cones, face-painting and kids’ crafts, as well as home decor and handmade gifts available for purchase.
See the Kingfisher Creative Facebook page for vendor highlights and more details about the event.
In addition to Brown, current board members include Nichole Goodson, vice president; Kellie Brown, treasurer; Amber Albers, secretary, and Val Snow, Ulanda Tiller, Kelly Kopp, Dustin Eaton and Clayton Morse, board members.
Festival T-shirts, bearing the logo that also appears on Page 1, can be ordered from the Kingfisher Creative Facebook page and picked up at the festival, Brown said.
