August sales tax up for Hennessey, Dover

By

Dover and Hennessey showed sales tax increases for August, according to the monthly report from the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

There were wide fluctuations in the figures announced by the tax commission, which collects sales tax for all cities and counties in the state along with collecting the state sales tax, reflecting the variances in sales tax paid by oil companies on products it uses in drilling operations from one month to the next and in different areas of the county where drilling is underway.

The August 2024 distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from June business.

Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically.

The monies they reported this period represent sales from June 16 to 30 and estimated sales from July 1 to 15.

The disbursement of $200,525,914 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected a decrease of $4,302,790 from the $204,828,404, distributed to them in August last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $36,692,373.

In county returns, the counties shared in $34,342,252 sales tax disbursements and $6,511,536 in use tax disbursements.

In addition to sales tax disbursements, the tax commission collects and disburses use tax to local entities.

Use tax is collected on products purchased out of state for use in state.

The use tax rate is the same as the sales tax rate of each entity.
