BEAUTIFUL STORM

BEAUTIFUL STORM

A MAJOR EVENT on the sun provided a natural phenomenon that’s normally reserved for those living well north to be experienced far south on Thursday, including Oklahoma. A solar storm, which is caused by “coronal mass ejections” on the sun, made its way to earth Thursday morning. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the CME arrived at earth traveling nearly 1.5 million miles per hour. By night, it made the “northern lights” visible in Oklahoma. Somewhat visible with the naked eye, the lights were heightened even more with cameras, such as the photo taken by KT&FP Staff Writer Twila Adams east of Kingfi sher. It’s the second time this year northern lights have been visible here. A slightly stronger storm occurred in May. [KT&FP Staff Photo by Twila Adams]
