It’s a year later than originally planned, but three people with local ties will be inducted next Saturday into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Among the 10 members of this year’s class will be the late Ray West, Jeff Myers and David Glover.

The trio will be inducted during a 6:30 p.m. ceremony Saturday, July 24, at Southern Hills Marriott in Tulsa.

The ceremony signifies the beginning of the annual OCA All-State Games and coaches’ clinics.

West, Myers and Glover were announced as members of the Hall of Fame in March 2020, but last year’s ceremony and All-State games were canceled due to COVID-19.

That pushed the ceremony to this year.

West, who passed away in August 2019, spent the largest part of his 45-year basketball coaching career at Okarche.

He won 554 games in 25 seasons with the Warriors and took them to state 11 times.

In all, West won 853 games, which is second all-time among boys coaches in Oklahoma history.

Earlier this summer, he was posthumously inducted into the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association.

His son, Aaron West, the current Okarche boys coach, accepted that honor and spoke on his father’s behalf.

“The whole room was filled with bigtime coaches,” Aaron West said of that June ceremony. “I wish he was here to enjoy it. He would have been smiling from ear to ear and just talked about all his kids over the years and the great coaches in the room.

“I had a hard time up there. I probably didn’t do him justice.”

Aaron West said the family will be there on Saturday to accept the OCA honor on behalf of his father.

Myers is about to begin his 18th season as the head coach of the Kingfisher High School football team.

Since taking over the KHS program in 2004, he’s led the Jackets to a school-record 170 wins, which is 107 more wins than any other KHS head football coach.

His teams have made the playoffs all 17 seasons and won at least one playoff game 16 times.

The Jackets have reached a state championship game five times under Myers, including the 2013 state championship.

His teams have reached the state semifinals 10 times during his tenure. Prior to his arrival, KHS had three total semifinal appearances.

The KHS football program has 54 playoff wins in its history. Myers has coached the Jackets to 40 of them. Those 40 wins are more than all but two previous KHS head coaches had during their entire tenures.

Glover is a one-time Okarche superintendent who now is an assistant director with the OSSAA.

He and his wife, Cyndy, reside in Kingfisher.

Of his 22 years coaching basketball, 21 were spent as a head coach.

He was an assistant one year at Woodward before coaching seven years in Okeene and then 14 at Fairview.

He coached both boys and girls at Woodward and Okeene and then led the Fairview girls program while being an assistant for the boys.

Glover won more than 350 games during his career.

Other coaching inductees will include Steve Edwards of Glenpool, Kyle Fowler of Spiro, Phil Ingersoll of Oklahoma City Public Schools, Gary Looper of Bishop McGuinness, Steve Patterson of Union and Jenks and Jerry Walker of Fort Gibson. Bill Young of OSU will be inducted for “distinguished service.”

Tickets to the induction ceremony, which is open to the public, are $20.
