Board starts interim superintendent interviews
Members meet for nearly 5hours during Monday special meeting
Board of education members gathered for nearly five hours Monday night as they began their search for an interim superintendent.
All but the opening and adjournment of the special meeting were spent in executive session as board members interviewed two potential candidates.
Interviewed separately, those candidates combined spent more than three hours with board members. Both interviewees are retired superintendents.
The board spent another 75-plus minutes in executive session after the second interview ended.
Monday’s agenda did offer an item to employ an interim superintendent, but the board did not take action.
A third interview was planned for a special meeting set for Tuesday evening (after press time of this edition).
That agenda also has an item that allows the board to take action on hiring a superintendent.
Present for the special meeting were Charles Walker, Terry Payne, Dana Golbek and Brad Wittrock.
Carly Franks was unable to attend. The board posted the position on job boards at Oklahoma State School Boards Association (OSSBA) and the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration (CCOSA).
According to the job description, the board is seeking a superintendent for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year.
The expected start date is posted as Oct. 7.
KPS is searching for the successor for David Glover.
The district’s superintendent since June 2022, Glover passed away earlier this month after a yearslong battle with cancer.
