Boys, Girls State Delegates will be honored as holiday parade marshals
Local Scout members to serve as color guard for chamber’s 4th of July event
Some of Kingfisher County’s best and brightest will be playing large roles in this year’s Fourth of July parade in Kingfisher.
The Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce has announced this year’s parade marshals will be Oklahoma Boys State and Girls State delegates.
Also, the chamber said Kingfisher County Cub Scouts Pack 196 and Troop 196 will be presenting the color guard for the parade.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. Thursday and kicks off a day (and night) full of events planned by the Chamber of Commerce.
Boys State delegates taking part will be Donte Almanzar, Jaden Bain, Robert Barnett, Keylun Combs, Keynun Combs, Alezandro Cuellar, Christian Farrell, Deacon Harjo, Myles Harrison, Cale Leck, Matthew Mecklenburg, Brayden Osterholt, Ryan Sanders, William Shaver, Ayden Smith and Joaquin Wallace.
Girls State delegates are Isabella Mayberry and Karen Muñoz.
The rising seniors took part in the weeklong events in late May and early June. Boys State was held at Rogers State University in Claremore and Girls State at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Kingfisher and the surrounding areas have been sending delegates to both Boys State and Girls State since each program’s inception Boys State in the 1930s and Girls State in 1940.
Chamber Executive Director Shauna Rupp said she was “very excited” about the Scouts’ participation this year. “It’s great to have a color guard and it goes great with our grand marshals,” she said.
It has been eight years since Kingfisher had a Cub Scout pack. In March, organizers were able to get enough boys who wanted to be in Scouts, so they were able to restart the Cub Scouts for Kingfi sher County.
There are currently 15 Cub Scouts and they hail from Kingfi sher, Loyal and Okarche. They range from kindergarten to fifth grade.
Local Eagle Scouts are also mentoring the younger Scouts.
The group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday nights at the Masonic Lodge and anyone interested is welcome to attend. Both boys and girls can join Scouts.
