A more than $12 million bridge rehabilitation project on State Highway 51 over Little Turkey Creek started last week, the Oklahoma Transportation Commission announced.

The highway will be narrowed to one lane with temporary traffic signals for two miles at a time, beginning with the stretch of highway between North Mitchell Road in Hennessey and County Road 2940, which is east of Hennessey in Kingfisher County.

As of Wednesday, wide loads are now restricted to no more than 10 feet wide through the work zone.

Motorists should plan for extra travel time through the work zone and use caution in the area. Additionally, the work includes resurfacing the highway and adding shoulders.

The contract was awarded by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission in February to The Cummins Construction Co. Inc., of Enid and is expected to complete in early winter 2022, weather permitting.
