Bridge replacement starts May 28
District 1 County Commissioner Jeff Moss confirmed Thursday that work on the Robberts Street Bridge over Uncle John Creek will start May 28, weather permitting. Moss said the first step will be tearing out the old bridge, pictured above. Moss attended a meeting of state officials Tuesday after receiving a report that the bridge project start would be delayed until September because of birds – swallows – nesting beneath it. Flashing signs have been placed near the intersection of U.S. 81 and Robberts Avenue in Kingfisher and east of Kingfisher on State Highway 33 announcing the construction start. The aging bridge has been subject to load limits in recent years, due to concerns about its safety. Efforts to replace the old bridge, which was built in 1960, have been under way for more than a year. [KT&FP Staff Photo]
