Candidate filing starts Monday for school boards

Filing for school board seats in Kingfisher, Dover, Hennessey, Cashion, Lomega, Okarche and Chisholm Trail Technology Center begins at 8 a.m. Monday at the Kingfisher County Election Board.

Shawna Butts, election board secretary, said Declaration of Candidacy forms must be completed and submitted to the county election board no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, when the filing period ends.

Declarations of candidacy will be accepted for five-year terms in Office 3 for Kingfisher, Dover, Hennessey, Okarche, Lomega and Cashion.

Candidates also may file for a two-year unexpired term for Cashion’s Office 5 and a five-year term for Office 5 at Chisholm Trail Technology Center.

Incumbents for each of those seats include:

Kingfisher – Jim Perdue. Dover – Shawn Walker. Hennessey – Luke Lough. Okarche – Mike Krittenbrink. Lomega – Justin Glazier. Cashion – Jessica Ballard (Offi

ce 3); Ryan Suntken (Office 5 unexpired).

CTTC – Chase Farrar. Butts reminds voters that Contests of Candidacy must be filed no later than Friday, Dec. 9, and may only be filed by another candidate for that office.

If only two candidates file for an office, the race will be decided at the general election April 4.

If more than two candidates file for the same vacant board of education position, a primary election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14.

If one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes at the primary election, that candidate will be named the elected official.

If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the vacant position in the April 4 general election.

Candidates for board seats at Autry Tech Center, Francis Tuttle Tech Center Canadian Valley Tech Center, Crescent, Okeene, Drummond, Cimarron and Covington- Douglas also will appear on some county ballots, since those districts overlap county borders.

The filing period for those offi ces also is this Monday-Wednesday.

Declaration of Candidacy forms can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/elections or by contacting the county election board office.

The election board is located in Room 8 at the county courthouse and open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
