Cashion FFA members enter season of service as they give back in November

November was a month filled with themes of service and giving back for the Cashion FFA Chapter as members dedicated their time to fulfilling the FFA Motto of “Living to Serve.”

Participating in a variety of service-based activities, members aligned the POA (Program of Activities) category of “Strengthening Agriculture” with giving back to the community, demonstrating how service and agriculture go handin- hand.

These efforts highlight the chapter’s belief in using leadership to support others.

At the beginning of the month, the Food Drive Committee organized a drive to collect boxed and canned goods to be donated to Cashion’s local food pantry, Loaves and Fishes.

The Food Drive Committee assisted in gathering, sorting and transporting food items to Loaves and Fishes, helping to ensure the items reached community members in need.

As well as donating to the food drive, FFA members participated in “Paws for Protein,” a challenge created in partnership with the Cashion FFA Chapter and Loaves and Fishes.

This opportunity to give back encouraged members to donate just $20 to Loaves and Fishes, where the funds were used to purchase protein to be distributed at the food pantry.

Throughout November, the chapter continued the “Pop Tab Challenge,” a contest with Cashion Elementary to collect the highest amount of aluminum pop tabs, all of which are to be donated to the Ronald Mc-Donald House Foundation at the end of the semester.

All of the pop tabs collected will be recycled to garner funds to support the families and children in care at the Ronald McDonald House.

As donations carry on, FFA members continue to set an example for younger elementary students and encourage them to join the chapter in recycling and supporting the foundation.

To conclude the month of giving back, the Community Service Committee partnered with Small Town Revival, Cashion’s local coffee shop, and Loaves and Fishes.

Together, the group of volunteers packed over 90 Thanksgiving meals to be delivered locally to families in need during the holiday.

Those involved gave their time to the service activity by gathering donations and organizing meals, all of which were packed at the agriculture barn.

The Cashion FFA Chapter wrapped up November with acts of service, dedicating their time to fulfilling the FFA motto and stepping up to roles of leadership.

Projects like these reiterate the chapter’s belief in giving back and striving for growth.

The Cashion FFA Chapter looks forward to taking advantage of more opportunities to represent agriculture as the winter season approaches.
