Cashion FFA rolls through September
Cashion FFA started the month of September out strong.
Cashion’s shooting team attended the OYE Shooting Contest in El Reno and Guthrie on Sept. 6.
The chapter has three shooting teams: Cashion Junior Gold, Cashion Junior Maroon and Cashion Senior Team.
These three teams all shot 100 rounds each of sporting clays and trap shooting.
Cashion’s Junior Maroon team placed 13th in trap and 15th in sporting clays. The team includes John Robinson, Colson Cotter, Madox Gibson, Otto Trello and Cash Nye.
The Senior Team placed 23rd in sporting clays out of the 76 entered teams. It also placed 37th in trap out of the other 81 teams.
The senior team includes Emerson Brandt, Derek Sheline, Parker Atkinson, Hank Hudson and Kyler Sylvester.
“These young men not only bettered themselves in a day’s worth of competition, but they also represented their school, themselves and chapter, respectively,” Cashion FFA Adviser Holly Drake said.
The same day, the Junior Gold team placed sixth in trap and seventh in sporting clays.
This impressive placing advanced the team to the finals on Sept. 27. The OYE Shotgun Finals were held at Silverleaf where the boys placed third in both trap shooting and sporting clays.
The Junior Gold team includes Colby Swickey, Garett McKeever, Rival Fields, Jacob Lablue and Kellen Smith.
“The Cashion FFA Chapter is especially proud of this young group in all that they have and will accomplish,” Drake said.
Individually, Swickey placed fourth in the ninth grade sporting clays division.
Later in the month, the Junior FFA team attended the Oklahoma State Fair Contest.
These young members placed sixth overall out of the 165 teams who entered.
This judging team includes Emerson Belt, Maggie Carroll, Nolin Farrar and Dally Pederson.
Pederson was the second high individual and Carroll placed 21st overall out of the 724 Junior FFA individuals.
“The chapter is beyond impressed with this eager and competitive group,” Drake said.
On Sept. 25, Cashion FFA members attended the Morrison LDE contest.
This contest was hopefully the first of many for Cashion FFA’s eighth grade creed team.
Although this competition was a first for Maggie Carroll, Jack Hardaway, Molly Mayes, Cam Shadix, and Kaizer Stout, they rose to the occasion with a second- place finish.
Nolin Farrar and a few others also attended the Morrison LDE Contest, but Farrar placed in the top 10 for the FFA quiz competi- tion.
Also, Carroll was the chapter’s Member of the Month for September.
“Carroll claimed this title by being a go-getter and always having a great attitude,” Drake said.
Carroll was the second best seller for the chapter’s Blue and Gold sale. The chapter had record sales of $51,140 worth of products.
“Overall, the Cashion FFA Chapter had a very successful, eventful and busy month,” Drake said.
Not only did the chapter show up and compete all month, but the officer team also attended the Northwest Area COLT Conference.
The officers spent the day learning how they could work together to better their chapter and community.
They are ready to apply their new knowledge and skills in the following months. Bring on October.
