Cashion resident Mary Hasley and her son Mark Beutler of Oklahoma City were recent guests at an Oklahoma Hall of Fame tribute to singer Wanda Jackson.

The event was held March 28 at the Capitol View Event Center in Oklahoma City. It honored Jackson, who is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame member.

“My mom and dad went to all of Ms. Jackson’s concerts back in the ‘50s,” Beutler said. “Mom was and still is a rock and roller at heart, and enjoyed getting to visit with one of her favorite performers. Last Christmas, Wanda gifted mom with an autographed vinyl copy of her latest and final album, ‘Encore.’ So this was a special day.”

The event was hosted in part by Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat, House Majority Leader Jon Echols and Oklahoma County Commissioner Brian Maughan, in cooperation with Allied Arts and the Oklahoma Arts Council.

Guests included former governors George Nigh and Frank Keating, Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame inductees Sherri Coale, former women’s basketball coach at the University of Oklahoma, and Mick Cornett, former Oklahoma City Mayor and sports anchor for KOCO-TV.

Other guests included inductees from the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, including singers Norma Jean Taylor, Becky Hobbs, and Grammy Award winner Jody Miller.

Joining Beutler were guests from the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Executive Director Agnieszka Rakhmatullaev and Maestro Alexander Mickelthwate. Beutler is Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Philharmonic.
