If you’re planning a New Year’s Eve celebration that involves alcohol, a safe ride home should be your first priority, law enforcement officers urge.

According to the most recent statistics, about 24% of all Oklahoma traffic fatalities involve an intoxicated driver.

Local and state law enforcement will be on alert for inebriated drivers to avoid adding to those statistics on Dec. 31.

They advise choosing a designated driver or arranging for a paid ride home before any drinking begins.

“We’d really rather not have your celebration end in an accident or arrest,” Kingfisher Police Chief David Catron said.

“We just ask that if you decide to go to a celebration and drink, drink responsibly and get a ride home.”
