Center of Family Love’s Espinosa retiring; Dillon steps into CEO role
Gift of Love Gala raises $1.2 million
The Center of Family Love’s 12th annual fundraising event brought in more than $1 million to the Okarche facility that provides a home for adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.
The Gift of Love Gala, held Saturday, June 7, at the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, raised $1.2 million.
Some 800 supporters attended the event, which was hosted by 2021’s Miss Oklahoma, Ashleigh Robinson.
The evening featured gourmet dining, live entertainment, inspiring resident performances and a high-spirited live auction.
Attendees heard stories from individuals and families whose lives have been forever changed through the work of CFL, which provides services at no cost to residents or families, for a lifetime.
The night was not only a celebration of the organization’s continued mission, but also marked a meaningful moment in CFL’s history.
CEO Debbie Espinosa announced her retirement after 13 years of leadership that expanded the center’s reach and impact.
Under her guidance, CFL grew from a beloved local nonprofit into a transformative force serving hundreds of individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities.
“After 13 years as the president and CEO of the Center of Family Love, I can honestly say it has been the honor of a lifetime,” Espinosa told the crowd.
“And yes, it’s hard to go, but tonight, I am not saying goodbye, I am saying thank you. Because of you we are launching a bold new chapter; a one-of-a-kind facility. I am leaving this mission in the hands of an extraordinary leadership team and in the hearts of all of you, our faithful supporters.
“Together, you are going to change Oklahoma, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for the laughter, prayers and legacy we have built together.”
Stepping into the role of CEO is Shawn Dillon, a leader with a deep commitment to CFL’s values and mission.
Dillon comes with 20 years of experience in organizational leadership as a retired lieutenant colonel and years of experience assisting within the organization.
“I’m honored to lead the Center of Family Love and continue the legacy of strong leadership set by Debbie Espinosa over the past 13 years,” said Dillon.
“The Center of Family Love has such a fantastic mission, and I am grateful to be a part of continuing to transform the lives of Oklahomans with intellectual and physical disabilities.
“This gala is more than a fundraiser – it’s a celebration of our residents’ talents and a showcase of the powerful impact we’re making today and in the future. The overwhelming success of this year’s event highlights the excitement around our new career training and development center.
“This facility will be a game-changer, filling the critical gap between high school or home and a rewarding life filled with amazing opportunities.”
One of the most moving highlights of the evening was the “Resident Feature,” a segment where several individuals served by Center of Family Love took center stage to share their talents, dreams, and stories.
Dressed in elegant gowns and sharp suits, the residents radiated pride and joy as they participated in the evening’s program – some performing with passion, others warmly greeting guests or courageously sharing their personal journeys.
The event also featured a special collection for the new career training and development center, raising over $400,000.
Proceeds from the event will help fund CFL’s developmental and educational services, including residential care, life skills programs and the development of a new 50,000 square foot career and training center in northwest Oklahoma City.
The facility, once complete, will allow CFL to serve an additional 500 individuals each year.
