Chiefs hope Tuesday drive brings life-saving donations

This will be the final time for Kingfisher’s two current chiefs to battle it out.

And you can help determine the winner.

The 10th annual “Guns n Hoses” blood drive is set this Tuesday, Feb. 20.

It will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kingfisher Elks Lodge and is hosted by Our Blood Institute.

Donors will be asked whether they’re giving blood on behalf of the Kingfisher Fire Department or the Kingfisher Police Department.

The department that has the most donors will get to keep the traveling trophy, one that has been housed the last two years at the fire department.

“That’s its proper home,” said Fire Chief Both chiefs insisted there are no losers when it comes to giving blood. “It’s a great cause,” Catron said. “And you’re saving lives by donating.” Kingfisher has certainly showed up in the past. The Kingfisher chiefs have collected multiple honors from the OBI, most recently in 2020-21 when the event earned “Sponsor of the Year” from the institute. The chiefs ask those who plan to donate to schedule an appointment immediately by calling 580-233-9323 or by visiting www.obi.org. Donors will receive a commemorative 10-year anniversary t-shirt upon giving.

Tony Stewart. “A few years ago, I put a sticker on the bottom of this that said “Property of Kingfisher Fire Department.”

“They never knew about it.”

Last year’s win gave the fire department a 5-4 advantage in the lifespan of the lifesaving competition.

Prior to that, the KPD had won three straight to take a 4-3 lead.

A win by the KPD this year would send Stewart out on a down note.

The longtime fire chief is set to retire at the end of March, making this his last competition with Chief David Catron and the KPD.
