Children’s librarian addresses retired educators
The Kingfisher County Retired Education Association met at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the Kingfi sher Memorial Library.
The original guest speaker, Lance Schneiter, could not attend due to a scheduling conflict. Fifteen members were present for the meeting.
Audry Sanders, Kingfi sher’s children’s librarian, was guest speaker along with LaRita Sipe, adult services librarian, who also contributed to the meeting with information regarding adult services programs and new updates at the library.
Sipe mentioned that in 2022, a monthly book challenge with different genres was established for adults who utilize the library. These challenges have proven to be very successful and will be continued in 2023, she said.
In addition to print books, the library also utilizes Libby, an app that can be downloaded and used for online books.
Most KCREA members still prefer print copies of books, but Sipe mentioned that the downloaded books can be audiobooks for those traveling or commuting.
She said she frequently reads a print book, but then listens to the audio version while commuting to work and back.
The previous online book platform, Overdrive, is no longer used by the library.
The library is considered a “safe zone” for children, including Gilmour Elementary School, located a few blocks north of the library. New lighting was recently installed in the library, including the check-out area.
Children’s programs include all of the following:
• Children’s storytime
• LEGO Club • Craft afternoons
• Mad Scientists Club
• Movies
• Board games The next KCREA meeting will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 3.
