Christmas (break) comes early for Kingfisher
Christmas break just got a little longer for Kingfisher Public Schools students.
The district’s board of education voted unanimously Monday at its December regular meeting to designate Dec. 23, 2021, as a professional development day for teachers.
That day was originally slated to be the final day for students.
Now that day will be Tuesday, Dec. 22.
“I’ve checked and we are still well within compliance with the Oklahoma State Department of Education,” Superintendent Dr. Daniel Craig told board members.
Districts are required to have 1,080 hours or 165 days of instruction during a school year.
“We’ll still be well over that limit,” Craig said.
However, he added, teachers are needing some time not allotted to finish some required professional development items.
“We really don’t have enough time set aside for that,” Craig said.
High school semester tests were originally scheduled for Dec. 22-23. Those will now be Dec. 21-22.
Students will return from the holiday break Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022.
